I'm an HVAC tech by trade here in Texas. While I haven't given this a go here in the heat of summer yet, I'm confident that the vest will definitely help at least keep the edge off for quick trips in to the attic.
I've worn it around the house and during garage work so far and it is super comfy and stays dry. I've been impressed with the amount of time the vest stays cold when not being worn. I had this in my hot van for a couple hours, got in the van to go home and it was still very cool.
Keep in mind, most of the time these are not like ice packs out of your freezer (although they are when straight out of the freezer) most of the day they'll be around the 50-60 mark. If they're partially frozen, we're told they maintain around 59'. Seems about right. Where as a ice pack seems to be either frozen / super cold or warm. So, the glacier packs, while not as cold seem to hold the cold for much longer.
I'll be interested to see if this will hold up to the rigors of HVAC work in the attic which involves some laying on your back and scooting around.
I did go ahead and order an extra set of cooling packs so I can keep them on a rotation during the summer.
I'm pretty sure this is going to be a full-time piece of clothing for me this summer.
Great job. guys.
The vest fits comfortably and the 12 cooling packs stay sufficiently cold to keep you comfortable for about 1 1/2 hours in 90 degree heat. If the pockets for the cool packs had a flap or Velcro closure to keep the packs secure, it would have received 5 stars.
So I'm an auto mechanic. Today was 100 degrees with 110 heat index. Yes I was sweating on my face and arms as you would expect BUT I wasn't dealing with heat fatigue. This evening at 5:30 I was still feeling good. YES you do have to put one pack in the freezer while the other pack is being used. In 100 degree heat, putting the packs in the fridge isn't enough. I burned through these packs in about 2 hours and the other set was ready by then. This vest is VERY flexible and comfortable to wear. I really bit off a little much because of the price, but in the end, it fits under my work uniform shirt and is very comfortable. I wear a regular t-shirt with it to help keep the shoulders cleaner. I'm going to have to say this is a GOOD product and it really works.
